banana chocolate popiscles

I work with children and have nieces who eat a lot of candy, white sugar, white flour etc and I am always on the lookout for new things to do with food that will expand on and improve their eating habits. I have been teaching them to take those bananas that they won't eat simply because they have brown spots on the skins - break them into three pieces - put a popiscle stick in and then freeze -for great tasting banana popiscles.

Today using the chocolate recipe here they dipped the frozen bananas into the chocolate - a real hit - ripe frozen bananas are sweet and combine well with the chocolate - better than an ice cream cone dipped in chocolate - and something they can make by themselves with little guidance.

Great Idea!
by: Tricia

Thanks for the great idea, cooldoey. I love the fact that the kids can make it themselves, too. Even very small children could help you do it, and they'll love the doing of it almost as much as the eating of it!

Just to clarify for readers who haven't worked with our chocolate recipe yet: I'm assuming you dip the frozen bananas into the just-made, liquid chocolate, which then immediately hardens onto the banana, and they're ready to eat. Is that right?

The times I've combined the liquid chocolate with bananas, even for kids, I haven't even used any sugar at all, since, as you say, the banana is so sweet that it isn't really necessary. But of course it's all a matter of taste.

Thanks again.
