I was trying to find a protein bar recipe to make for my husband who buys them in the store all the time. Most of what is available in the stores is loaded with sugar and preservatives so I searched the web and found a few recipes on how to make protein bars.
I was able to eliminate a lot of the bad ingredients and added my own ingredients to make it healthy. And since my husband loves chocolate, I also searched the web for a chocolate bar recipe to coat the protein bars.
I found a lot of recipes that either require flour or shortening and sugar. Undeterred, I kept looking and ran into your page. I'm so glad I did! I had no idea making chocolate would only require 3 simple ingredients! Cocoa powder, coconut oil and a sweetener.
All I did was use 1 cup cocoa powder and 1 cup coconut oil and a few packets of Truvia. I put all 3 ingredients in the food processor and hit blend. I spread this paste on top of my protein bar mixture and put it in the fridge. Within minutes the chocolate hardened and it tasted delicious!!
Thank you so much for the wonderful recipe. BTW, it tastes great without the coconut shavings!
Comment from NaturalHealthStrategies about Truvia:
Thank you for taking your time to share your recipe with us, Quynh! I'll bet your husband's glad you took the time to find a recipe, and that you take the time to make if for him.
We do want to point out that Truvia is highly processed. It also contains corn-based ingredients. Most of the corn grown in the U.S. is genetically modified, and is therefore extremely unhealthful. For these and other reasons, we cannot recommend Truvia. But you could make the protein bar with a bit of natural sweetener such as organic honey or some organic demerara sugar, and I'm sure it would taste just as good!
